I've started spending money on my cars again, So thought I'd make a thread to document progress and fish for ideas.

As a bit of history I used to have this:

Then this:

With this lot before and in between:

And just under two years ago I bought this:

A 1999 TDI Passat. No plans, just a comfortable and economical car after the expensive excitement of the 325, and the boring lower back pain of the focus that preceded it.

Ghastly alloys, 60mpg on the motorway and 0-60 in 11 seconds.

A cross Europe trip to Latvia, via Germany:

Some sump on ground action one morning:

Followed by a year of motoring:

I finally decided to buy some coilovers and some normal wheels, before doing this to it:

For reference, my Bora has a 'progress' thread on here too... CLICKY

I don't have too many plans just yet for the passat. Going for more of a 'subtle (non-rusty) "rat"' look than anything else. It's an old car, so no point in pimping it up with shiny new alloy wheels or anything. Steel wheels, dirty paintwork and maybe a few little modifications to set it apart from a standard car.

I'm thinking this in the short term:

And I have to fix a few mechanical quirks that it seems to have developed over the last couple of years.

Did a coolant flush and replaced the thermostat today.

Also raised the engine by about an inch to stop the sump hitting the ground again!

Raising the engine on these is much easier than on the Mk4 platform cars as the engine sits on the mounts rather than hanging from them. Just unbolt, jack up, stick in some washers and replace all the bolts!

Dropped the front end another inch. It's about 23" from floor to arch at the front, and 24" at the back.

I've lightened a few of these photos a little so you can see better!

Going to be ordering some orange indicator lenses next week when I get paid!
