Off to see an R32 at an independent dealership on Saturday morning - other than the usual car related checks anything in particular I should check?

I'll get an AA/ HPI history check before handing over the readies after the test drive.

yeah mate, if the average fuel consumption drops below 25mpg at any point then reject the car as it obviously drinks too much fuel and get yourself a nice PD130 instead...

I'll get my coat [:p]

[see other .:R related threads for the general merriment today, I do apologise, and shall indeed not darken this thread with any further childish responses] [:)]

Look out for a flatspot/hesitation around 2,800 rpm. If it has it then get the car to VW for the 6463 update.

Listen carefully for rattles because there seems to be a few on the R32 - namely cup holders and seat belt clips.

Check the aver4age mpg the car has done - if it's any lower than 24 then the car has probably been thrashed.

On the right hand stalk there is a button on the bottom of it. Press it briefly (not for too long though else it resets info stored) and look on the display on the dash and make sure it has a number 2 in the top right (I think) corner. Then press the up/down on the end of the stalk to get to mpg. It also tells you average speed, time travelled, instant mpg and distance travelled.

Humm have to disagree there, a bit of an overstatement I feel, although you did say probably[;)]

Lol...well mines a thrashed example as I don't think I have ever seen 24mpg out of it even running with cruise!

I wouldn't be too concerned about the average mpg's these cars do drink a lot of fuel, in and around town I'm lucky to get about 18mp average.

Well - just got back after the test drive.

Bleedin' nora - best car I have ever driven (and that includes my old man's Carrera4S)

So not surprisingly have left a deposit and will be collecting it by next weekend [8D]

It needs a service, has a small scratch on the rear bumper and the exhausts are a bit grubby, so it'll be off to a main dealer to get those bit sorted before I collect it - checked the MPG and it was on 22.

Two previous lady owners and 17600 miles Just done an HPI check and it's all clear - hurrah!

Knocked him down by a grand too [^]

Thanks for the advice boys & girls [:)]

18mpg driving around town is the norm - that's not thrashed!

Probably better off taking the car for a test drive and listen out for weird/unusual sounding noises (mechanical noises that it)

I meant combined urban & rural. But I suppose when you see the average mpg of a car you don't know what sort of driving it has done. So if it was 24mpg and the car was mainly a town car then that's pretty good!
