But the plates were made up by VW uk, so how could you prove it was 0001? As both tabs and I know that vw just used a local manufacturer to make the plates up.

Does it have any other documentation to prove its number?

Doesn't look like it - the locations are the same on Ebay and the Register, and if you look at the guys name on the Register and the username on Ebay I'd guess it was the same bloke.

Doh.. forgot to check the register, presumed it had been sold.

Probably wiil be worth slightly more in a few years time but not worth the initial cost the Ebay Auction will bump it up to.
