as far as i am aware the alarm will only chirp if all the doors are locked correctly. check your door switches, bonnet switches and boot switch. also fuel cap. i'm not sure if disabling the interior sensors turns of the chirp.

ah you may well be on to something here! i found a nice button down drivers side of chair and pressed that yesterday? i beleive this is to turn off interior sensors? i would have thought that after restarting car etc, that this would reset? if not, how do you activate interior sensors again??

Come to think of it, my alarm has been going off for no reason recently and peeing off everyone in my work! could it be that one of my sensors are busted which was causing the false alarms, and now the sensor is making alarm think that a door/boot/bonnet is not shut properly, hence why not chirping?? just a thought?

Where are the sensors for the door/boot or do they just work off interior light coming on (door pin)?

byebyegti: If the doors/bonnet/boot/fuel cap aren't shut properly, your car won't arm - someone's already said that. That button by the drivers door will turn off the interior monitoring, pressing it again will turn it back on - you can check by hanging something from your interior mirror, swing it, lock the car, wait 30sec and then the alarm should go off.

You mentioned something about your alarm going off, and I think the 2 are related. My rear washer hose cracked a few months ago, letting washer fluid leak into the boot lock, this led to false sensor readings in the car - it thought the boot wasn't shut properly because of the water in it so, after leaving the car a while, the alarm would go off.

I hope that makes some sort of sense. Oh, and if I'm right about the washer, and you want to get it fixed, you can do it yourself - http://www.golfmk4.co.uk/ A member of this site runs that website I think.

Hope I helped and not just rambled!

I put a post up asking where the siren is in the golf's however got feedback that its not a simple swap over?? anyone else know anydifferent?

Oh while im at it....anyone from nearish glasgow with VAGCOM?

Sugar79: You can use a VAGCOM to make the car chirp when it's armed/disarmed. Most people have it turned off though. Also, VAGCOM can be used to:

- activate/deactivate s elective unlocking (one press - driver's door, two presses - all doors & boot)

- make the indicators flash when you lock/unlock the car

- loads of other stuff I can't remember!!

Sweet talk VW and they'll do it for free!
