Hi All,

Took out an instrument fuse 5a today and did a scan of the ECU using KWP2000 software. I did not change anything, just read the ecu. Plugged the fuse back in and the airbag warning light came on and stays on. Tried VAG-COM shareware and it gets no reponse from the airbag controller. Does anybody have any ideas. I have cleared DTC's before with VAG-COM but the fact it cannot contact the Airbag controller worries me.

Thanks in advance.

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Have a look at this page here and check you haven't just scanned your airbag controller with this version of vag-com (pre 402 I think) because, depending on the age of your car you may have a problem. You could try disconnecting your battery for 15min, I've read people on here have done this before to reset the fault.

I've been using VAG-COM 409 and the problem actually occured before I scanned so hoping that isn't the issue.

Really? I've had mine disconnected for 30mins and that hasn't helped! I wish I could do it that easily! I've had the airbag warning since my car was re-mapped 3 weeks ago and it is beginning to get on my nerve! There isn't anybody around here that has VAG-COM that has offered me their help and I don't wanna pay ?? to a stealer to do it!!

IronMongeR - I expect you've accidently knocked the cable when you cleaned!
Yeah I know, I've never done it before, just what I read.

If you're ever up near Swindon, I'll do it!

Disconnecting did nothing, I managed to test my alarm but thats about it.  Is there anybody with VAG-COM in the sheffield/chesterfield area?  It seems this light is a bit randon from what other people have been saying.  The only thing I can put it down to was removing the instrument panel fuse.  The other thing I've noticed is the interior light now seems to turn on and off when the driver door is open.

Mine's been on the last 2 weeks after cleaning under the seats. []
It's your connection under the seat it needs to be cut and rejoined but check with someone first before doing it as there is certain way of doing it.

Fixed it after a little help from ChippedUK.  It was because I unplugged fuse 11.  Once I plugged everything back in and scanned with VAG-COM it showed a voltage drop error.  Clear the DTC and the light vanished.

I've now got this as someone was reading my ECU to potentially re-map & copied the mapping there. He copied and switched off

Tried starting the engine and it cut out as he forgot to replace fuse 11.

refitted fuse and the car started okay but airbag fault came on, no worries he says, I'll switch to my VAG-COM (Ross Tech) and clear it, came up with warning that 2000 & 2001 cars may not work with the VAG COM on airbag resetting fault....mines a 2001.......

any ideas to reset, I'll disconnect the battery now but I'm not hopeful.....

Don't think there's a problem with resetting the airbag light on 2000-2001 cars on the latest release of vag-com, so you could use that. Or get a dealer to do it - sweet talk them! Mine's a 2000 and I resetted it with an old version of vag-com.

DTC - diagnostic Trouble Code (I think!)

Yes, get the specialist to do it if you're orried - the problem is with the vag com-airbag controller interaction and the specialist probably won't use vag-com. Even if he does and it cocks up - he did it so needs to repair it!!
