Hello Guys,

Im the owner of the ABT supercharged 4Motion That Evil Homer Has spoke about.

Im a newbie and was advised to look at your site by Evil, im not best pleased he has posted a review on the car with pictures when the car was filthy and that he told me he was going to show a few mates when it turns out to be one of the best websites i can find on VW.

Anyway its done now and i would like to clear a few things.

Evil is bang right when saying i don't know much when it comes to tuning, he's pretty spot on with his car knowledge and i know the guy so i let him have a spin in it.

The car in question is a black 2001 4motion which began its life at ABT from the beginning. It has not featured in PVW mag as i told Evil but in VW driver mag May 2001 and Nov 2001. It was drove back from Germany by the writer of VW driver hence when they did the article.

When Evil saw the car, the standard 4motion vent on the left had gone missing and the car was absolutely filthy. Trust me the car is gorgeous and unmarked on the outside and is in mint condition.

I will get some pics when polished up, as a car should not be put on here without it being in all its glory after looking at some of your cars.

I could do with some guidance with the running on it, as i do have a problem with the charger coming loose and not being that technically minded i could do with learning a thing or two.

Any advice is really appreciated.

So Its yours is it........ Damn Im jealous Im actually the guy who was pestering evilhomer to see if you would sell it.

How long have you had it? and where did you find it? and is there anymore LOL

as far as servicing it you need to speak to abt in germany ASAP as some supercharger setups require certain servicing such as new bearings in the charger and new belts on the charger

Hello Mate

Its a lovely car and quick as hell, the main reason i bught it was i wanted something that was pretty unique in the UK.

I have only had it about 2 months and the guy who saw it on autotrader is right that it was up at ?10995. I Part exed my 172 against it and was cacking myself when i floored it for the first time and felt the difference in power.

The guy who had it before me worked for ABT when they had a outlet in the uk and when it came on the buyers list got it.

I have spoke to him and im not sure whether he was exaggerating but he reckons on the autobahn road they clocked it doing 170mph. Seems a stretch to me but it would be interesting to find out what it can do.

I think i will take your advice and contact ABT in germany, also Evil told me Awsome GTI are pretty good.

Im pretty sure ABT went bust. I have a review of basically the Bora version of your car in VW Driver 2001 Rayban gave me; its got the same bodykit, wheels and charger, and was given equally positive reviews. Welcome to the forum, you will not be short of friends with that piece of kit!

My front mounted intercooler is an ABT item

the only company i could find at the time that produced a bolt on FMIC for the Golf

They were based in Manchester and i believe the uk arm did go bust

not surprising considering that their products were very expensive

having said that the FMIC was ok value compared to the products now on the market from Forge and the like

Cheers for the Welcomes

I am glad you guys know something about this car as i have emailed germany ABT and not yet had a reply.

Mikedav i think you might be right on them going bust in the uk, the website for ABt germany is still up and running but the uk one ceased in feb.

I must admit to you having little knowledge of this type of car i was worried about there being problems with it, the guys i bought it from said they had made a mistake on the price and a fair few VW enthusiasts ad contacted them and offered more money on it. But then again it could be a line they fed me.

I do get the impression that the ABT styling of the car is not to everyones liking but when i get chance i will get some decent pics of it as the others do not do it justice.

You have something uber cool. Definetly worth hanging onto, I know of only two others. Its a pricy conversion but all reports suggest a reliable and sturdy one. Im sure the likes of Wilko, Ed, R1GTI, 4 Low, Liam H etc can help with your piping issue.

Wadd - firstly welcome to our little forum mate [;)]

It's nice to have another 4Mo owner join us and one that has something a bit different too. The car does look good and I bet it drives superbly and you have a big smile on your face when you do press that right foot down a bit harder [:)]

Will love to see some more pics mate...

I have been doing LOTS of research on this, basically vf engineering produced 3 types of this kit

1. for FWD american VR6 24valves (same engins as the 4motion)a reasonable $4000 (?2000)

2. for the american R32 a reasonable $5000 (?2500)

3. For a UK 4motion it works out at ?5200

Now all the above kits are the same PERIOD that is despite the LHD and RHD and the lack of 4motion what is different is the chip, when VF developed the 4motion kits they had to goto the expense of shipping a UK 4motion to California and that is why it is quite cheap to sc a VR6 in the states but very expensive to do it in the UK as were paying for those development costs.

What I have been looking at doing is buying a vr6 kit from the states (possibly used) and having a custom chip done, I reckon I can do this for ?2000. But first I am going to change my car for a 5 door.
