ABS only kicks in when one of the wheels lockup.. it'll release a bit of the pressure on the caliper of said wheel than as long as your foot is on the brake pedal it'll keep doing that until the car has come to a stop or you've removed your foot from the brake pedal ( it does this on all four calipers if needs be by the way)... whatever comes first.

that said, it makes a big difference in stopping distance so i would try and sort it out asap, because it is there for emergency braking and that is when it helps shorten the brake distance.
