well i have been and had a look at both cars now, although not test driven yet and i think i would have to go with the audi A3, i think it looks better even without the sline kit and being as it has the same engine as GTI but also the added quattro, surley it would handle better than a GTI. both cars have a very similar interior would be hard to tell differnce except for BOSE. For me the new GTI just doesn't look much different from a normal MK5.

agree or disagree?

it might help decide the next purchase.

The Audi does not have anywhere near the good write upa s the GTI, including the handling. You logic seems correct but it seems the GTI drives a lot better. I guess the only way you can tell is with back to back test drives.

I choose the Audi over the 2 but I wanted to go for a diesel and preffered what the A3 had to offer.

If it's driving enjoyment you want then the Gti's got to be the one to go for! I think the interior of the Audi is a LOT better than the golf but that could be just because it's black

Interior of the A3 is grey J!!!! Tut tut...

Horses for courses guys, I would gladly trade in my A3 for a GTI and my A3 is loaded with nearly every possible extra.

The A3 is a great car though - the Golf has very understated styling, the A3 even more so and the A3 doesn't handle too badly for an overweight lump but the GTI just felt a bit more planted to me when I drove it.

It is a really difficult choice. I was looking at the A3 tdi S line or the Gti when I order the Gti. Main reason for me, never had a Gti before but always wanted one.

Does make you think go to Drive the Deal and I speced an A3 2.0T S Line at 22287.58 about a grand more than I paid for the Gti and the only extra was Bose.

It is a great price for a quality car.

It would be the Audi for me. The interior of the A3 is a lot nicer than the GTI and the looks on outside are also in the A3's favour whether it be a standard or s-line model. I haven't driven a new a3 with the 2.0T but regulary drive a new A3 TDI and it is a very nice car to drive. Yes the handling of the GTI did feel better but I wouldn't say by a lot especially if the A3 is a sport model. Drive both though and find out which one you prefer.

well just driven a A3 2.0T fsi with quattro, feels a little quicker than anni (without revo to be fair) but not much, turbo lag is less but torque is way better just keeps pulling feels like you could use 3rd gear for everything. Handling though is much better, kicked in the 4 wheels on various round abouts. traction control hardly came on but the same roads in anni and would have had it on with under stear.

would love to see audi against gti though (with the stig in it)

will try and get round to GTI but the shape just puts me off.

I'm also putting some serious thought in going for an A3 2.0T Quattro too. However, I'm gonna hold out and wait until the new face-lift (grill) design comes out. Last thing you want is to shell out the better part of ?23-25k and be stuck with the old shape. Audi are playing a very cunning game delaying the new S3....

Is it? I would ask if your sure but you have the car and i don't! Yet.

It's a very dark grey then? Or perhaps they have changed the interior? The headlining is black and the dahs seemed to match the colour of that when I test drove it...and the seats...

With the s-line you get the black headlining. I was convinced the dash was black but Irish has his A3 already and mine's being built as we speak so he should know better than me!

I've gone for a 2.0Tdi S-line DSG. After boosting Shell's share price for the last year I've decided to get something a bit more sensible for the miles I do! I know, I know gone over to the dark side and theres no saving me...

I went for black (non metallic), with black/silver half leather interior, bose, centre arm rest, xenons, heated seats, auto wipers/lights/dipping mirror's, something to do with luggage in the boot. Pick it up on the 5th of March fingers crossed [:D]
