A few interior problems .. newbie needing help!

Right, new to the car scene so go easy on me!

Just bought myself a S reg gt tdi 110, 3 door. Few things wrong with it ..

1st problem - Centre arm rest, the lid part keeps falling off and doesnt clip closed. Also the arm rest doesnt seem to hold weight well, and when you lean on it, its drops down easily.

2nd problem - There is what looks like a small storage area behind the centre armrest. Not sure what used to be there, but theres something missing. What is missing from there?

3rd problem - behind the drivers seat in the back, the door cover is loose. Its a 3 door, just not sure what the part is called! It has the speakers attached to it. It looks as if there is clips missing?

4th problem - rip in headliner. Is it possible to change the headliner at all? Or is it to big of a job.

Hope somebody can help a newbie to the dubscene, thanks in advance.

1. go down a scrap yard and see if u can find a new lid without breaking the clips on it. also sounds like the button to move the arm rest up and down might be wedged in, try to loosen it off - you'll feel it clip into positions rather than fall down,

2. i thnk your talking about the circular ash tray - its really just an ash tray

3. its a door card - i have a 4 door cant help to much but there are small circular clips to hold them in place. a dealer might be able to sell u them im not sure.

4. can be replaced

hope thats alright

For leaning on the arm rest have you raised it to the lock position and then lowered it to its desired height? That should lock it in place. Sounds like the clip has gone on the front of it. They're around £2 on ebay.

Behind the armrest is a cup holder hidden away and an ash tray with a lid that closes.

Could be clips missing in the door card or could also not have been attached properly. Check to see what the fault is, they can be easily removed.

Headliner can be easily changed. Was one for a 3 door on ebay not so long ago. If you need a write up how to do it i'll write you one as I've not long taken mine apart.
scrap yard / breakers yard for all of those problems. Replacing the headlining isnt that hard, just takes a few hours. The armrest lid shouldnt be too hard and a new ashtray for the rear is about £6 from ebay if you get it from the right place as they normally break so probably won't find a decent one at the scrap yeard. The door card can be fixed by taking it off (there are tutorials on here on how to do it) and putting some new clips on it (or once again ones you salvaged from the scrap yard) [:)] hope that helps and welcome mate
Thats exactly what i wanted to hear!

The armrest is just loose, you put it in the up position and the lid opens, and falls down to rest on the back seat. Will have a little look at it and have a fiddle with the button bit.

If its only an ash tray with some sort of lid, i may just leave it for now. Its no biggy as i dont smoke.

There is no clips on the (what is it actually called, with the speakers attached to?) i can see that there is 3 places for it to clip too, but i need the clips. If anyone has a link to them that would be much appreiated.

Thanks for your help guys.

This golf is a whole new world compared to my old corsa!
right i have just ordered them clips.

New problem - there is a big old plastic bit going from left footwell around the gear stick and to the right foot well.

This plastic bit is loose, and makes an annoying rattley noise sometimes. There looks like there is a clip missing. Plastic bit has a recess and a small hole in the middle, behind it there a large hole. Will the clip above secure this in place? How do i fit it correctly. The loose bit is by the clutch pedal.

Also, im bidding on a front cupholder, as the one in my car, the cover is falling off and there is no cupholder in there!!
No. Them clips are for the door cards only. The spiral part rests in the door card and the plug on the end secures it to the panel.
pictures of the part that is loose by the clutch pedal? Probably be able to tell you what you need by going to look at mine then. [:)] If I'm not wrong that panel is secured by a crosshead screw that screws into a small metal clip behind the panel through a recessed hole, but I might be thinking of a different bit so yeah, pics would help.
Will try and get some pics tomorrow in the light [Y] it's does sound like ASHeuro4 described.

Also i have just gone and snapped the clip which holds the lid onto the front armrest. Had a little play with it to see what was going on and made it worse. Basically the lid wont stay closed. I looked at the parts on ebay and they had springs, on mine there wasnt any springs inside so i fitted some, it seemed to work, but it doesnt actually catch!! What is going on with it, its almost as if i need to slid the actual lid back abit to get it too hook onto the armrest.

This is the part that is loose by the clutch pedal. You can see the hole on the right hand side. Behind it there is a metal tab with a big hole in it. But no sign of any clips.
Its held by a philips head screw fella
