[:(!] Received my renewal quote from Eagle Star this morning and they want £930 for the year. I only Paid £600 last year and have not made any claims since then. What the [}:)] is goign on. I though insurance was meant to get lower with age. I'm driving a diesel for goodness sake ok so its a 150 but its no Ferrari! Needless to say I will be making some phone calls tomorrow one of which will be to Eagle Star to give them chance to explain. Anyone got any ideas for good companies I could try.

Rang Eagle Star today and gave them hell! They recalculated my premium and it comes back at 640 which is a lot better. They claim (no pun) that they were listing my car as an import. How many times do you have to tell them! Rung a couple of other companies and no one can come close so may have to stick with them, again.

Just had a pleasant suprise, renewal isnt due until December, but im already hunting around. I tried Admiral, the same company who gave me a quote of over £1300 for a stock 1.6 just over a year ago:

3yrs NCB

Golf 1.6 '98

As a standard car the quote is £708... only a dribble more than what i pay now. With all mods declared, including planned ones (alloy wheels, body coloured bumpers, rear spoiler, lowered suspension, interior mods, and exterior decorative mods), the quote is a not too bad £890. I only have my wheels declared at present, but i dont think that quote is actually that bad... [:)]

I wonder if they then make a note on your file that you requested a price for a list of particular mods, then in event of a claim they check this list against you car just in case you fitted the mods but didn't declare due to excessive rise in premium?

If this is the case then it could be a fine way of shooting yourself in the foot, or am I being cynical??
