Yep, had the car 2.5 years and its just dropped its 4th Window. I shut the door and heard the telltale suspicious rattle.. [}:)]

Window wound down then struggled to come back up. Front clip is holding it up, so there's still glass there.

Do I hold the record for dropped windows???! 4??! Someone at VW needs a damn good kicking.. especially because last time this window broke (14mths ago) they assured me they fitted metal clips. Lying dirty barstools.. someone in service dept deserves a smack [B)]

Anyway, just to name and shame them. Parkway VW. Useless, expensive, stupid and apparently a pack of liers now too. So just avoid them

Thats bad news mate,is it still under warranty? Ive got a 5 door, none of the windows have dropped yet,got a sneaky suspicion that theyre all waiting for my warranty to run out next june, then they'll fall down at the same time...probably when its raining and im miles from home!!! Paul.

Warranty ran out well over a year ago. I'm on my own now!

At least its only a 2dr and don't have to worry about the rears. Weird tho that I've had 3 mk4s and none dropped windows cept this one.

This is my 3rd driver side + 1 passenger side (which does have metal clips fitted by independant VW specialist)

Shocking really innit.. VW should pay for this, but I know they won't

Disgraceful really,VW should do better,or theyre going to start losing a lot of credibility amongst the people that buy them time and time again. You would think a company of that size and means would be able to build a car in 2004 that can keep its windows up!! Or are we just expecting too much?! Paul.

If VW dealer replaced the windows clips 14 months ago then it should be covered for 2 years. I had mine done just before the warranty expired and have actully got a letter from VW customer service confirming the repaired window/clips (actually had a new regulater fitted) would be covered by 2 year warranty. And suprise suprise after exactly one year it failed again. Took it to a different dealer who replaced failed clips with new style, no problems with warrenty, just wanted to see original receipt.

Well.. I can give it a whirl by calling them.

However I do expect that I'll be booked in sometime next month as usual as usual.

Think I'll just get VW specialist to fix em on monday or tuesday.

It's cheaper to work the stats as to how many cars you can expect back with the problem and over what timescale - i.e outwith warranty. Obviously works out cheaper than admitting it and changing the line.

Fatbob, suppose youre right, but it doesnt make it any better for those of us that part with hard earned cash to drive a nice shiney Golf, then have the windows drop into the door. I bet mine go now, just because its winter and i'll get cold and wet..just wait and see! Ha ha. Paul.

I`m on my third one in 18 months so your record might not be safe.

The bad thing is it's the second time for the rear offside.

I phoned VW customer services to ask if they would check and replace the ones that have not gone yet and you can guess what they said to that. Also asked what the position would be when the car is out of warranty and was told that VW would look at the case and possibly make part payment as a gesture of good will.

The woman made a report out while I was on the phone which she said she was sending to the main factory.

So I would suggest that anyone with window problems call this number 0800 711811 and register their complaints.

I had mine fail again (drivers side) after it was repaired about a year ago when the car was under warantee. They paid for half of it as a good will gesture.

I did point out that it should be covered under a 2 year warantee for fitted parts but they said that anything fixed under the original 3 year warantee is not covered. Unbelievable especially as this is a known fault. They say they fitted the metal clips this time so it should be okay, just got to wait for the passenger side to go now.

I understand. With the cold, frosty, misty mornings we get in Autumn, I feel very scared everything I wind the windows down/up just to clear water moisture on side windows when starting up in the morning. I hate these window regulators. They are almost like a sleeping volcano, in a sense, you know it's very likely to happen, you just never know when?

Took mine in today you could have knocked me down with a feather, when I asked the the very nice service manager if they could check and change the nearside window clips as well as repair the broken offside passenger window he replied "of course we can sir".

There is a sting to this however, when I whent back to collect the car in the afternoon I was told that the repair on the window had been done but they had not got a clip for the front nearside, whereupon I said "so the two rears are done?" "Oh no VW dont do a meatle clip for the rear windows they don't break" was the reply "But mine has twice" was my reply.I leave it to you own imagination as to how the conversation whent from there.

The outcome of our conversation was as you say repairs done under warranty have no warranty cover after it ends, plastic window clips on rear doors (because they never break),and if you are aware of the problem You might get VW to pick up half the bill if they break out of warrenty, for so many thousand miles(can't remember how many).

So pick mine up tomorrow after haveing to drive a sluggish 1.6 MK5 loan car home.

just hope I dont hear that dreaded bang again. But I'll still keep the polythene and tape in the boot just in case.

Hi, I have had similar problems and VW UK confirmed that if your car is under 6 years old (or might be 5) and done less than 60k, they will pay for 1/2 the repair charges. The garage should have called VW to arrange this on your behalf, before they present the bill for their work. If the garage has not called VW UK, call them yourself and they will help. They will call the garage and arrange for 1/2 the bill to go to them, and have a go at the garage for not informing them in the first instance, as the gararge is aware of this little problem !!

Mine went after a week of owning the car, which was about 2 months ago. I'm now crapping myself thinking of what effect the freezing weather will have on it. Gets to the stage where you dont use your windows for fear of it happening again, which is wrong considering the amount we pay for these motors!

Exactly I tend not to use the windows at all if I could help it. When it happened last time, I was lucky enough on my way home when it dropped so I got the car in the stealer 10 mins before 1800 shutting time. It was replaced the following morning.

If my memory serves me right, in the godd old USA VW was forced into giving a 6 year unlimited mielage warranty on the windows. It was deffinently better than what we are offered here. I seem to remember the rear windows now have metal clips available as awell. Do a search on this forum and Vortex and you will find the numbers.

My drivers window having been replaced twice by VW under warranty is again making a lot of rattling noises from inside, slowly getting worse, I sense another visit coming up soon. Especially as the rattle is getting very annoying, I think i will have to ensure it fails soon !!!!
