was thinkin bout maybe just maybe outting the 4motion and getting a TT - now I am edging towards an S3 (decided to go halves on a crappy diesel for the motorway journey to work with a colleague and have decided although I could afford one I cant justify an R32 sitting in the garage all week losing cash)

I cant believe the insurance is over ?200 less for the S3 over my 4mo!!! wtf is all that about then hey?

so anyway - WHO has made that transition froma 4mo to an S3 (and why the S3 over the TTC - 225 of course)

looking forward to your info...... [)]

TT's have that girls car/hairdressers image, and S3 are less common than TT's. Also for some strange reason the S3 is faster than the TT, even though the TT is slightly lighter.

TT suffers will electrical faults on the instrument cluster which can be expensive to replace out of warranty.

I have never driven a 4motion but sold my 225 S3 in july and miss it dearly. I use my car for work every day and do over 150miles so the S3 was no good due to fuel costs.

An absolutely awesome car and the recaro's are excellent. Handling was second to none and it was the most fun to drive out of any car I've driven. I'd get another one tomorrow if it was viable but unfortunately its not. Every time i pass one i toy with the idea of getting another. You won't be dissappointed!

i've driven a couple of TT's which are also an excellent car but there are too many of them around and they just don't do it for me, but, its horses for courses. try www.tyresmoke.net who are a great source of info for S3's andd TT's.

Meeeeoooowww, what a female dogy comment.[:X]

I do hop eyou were reffering to the TTR(roadster).

Some people may say, you cant afford a half decent TT to be driving around in a "W" plate A3!?

Each to there own.

I would have an S3 over a TT any day of the week! Down partly to the image of the TT, personal thing I know but I just would feel like a plank driving a TT - the souped up crushed Beetle[:D]

My uncle has a roadster 225 one and I really cringe seeing him driving about in it with the top down[:I] Driven my mothers Z4 a few times and felt like a poser in that too, I hate that!! Good fun to drive though[}:)]

I drive an S3, not an A3 and yes I could afford a TT, but they are more common and totally impratical for my needs[}:)]. Personally I think all TT have that hairdresser image and beefy it up with a 3.2 does not make F... all difference to this image.

Have to say having driven all the golf variants (S3/Leon Cupra R 225/TT 225/R32) and owning a 4Motion.. I am quite happy to stick my neck on the chopping block and say that the 4Motion is the best value of all of them. Sounds nicer than the 1.8T's More useable power at all revs, half the price of nearest R32/TT 3.2..

Admittedly you don't get that Turbo rush, especially with the modified 1.8T's but the term P*ss and Wind always springs to mind... capacity is always a winner for me!!

Don't get me wrong I love the 1.8T engine, and think its awesomely tunable... just don't get that gutsy pulling power that you get out of the V6. As for the R32 and TT 3.2... Fantastic gorgeous motors.. but after test driving the R32, I decided to keep my 4Motion and modify it... Just not different enough for me to spend another 10 grand. I can do 2 grand and have a very similar if not better than standard R32. 9 Grand gets you power comfort and lots of potential for modification... you know it makes sense, keep the 4Motion!!! Mega Value!! (Bar ridiculous fuel costs... but if ur thinkin about that then Diesel anni all the way!!)

well guys - a few months have passed by and I have toyed with TT's / R32's / 2.7 Boxsters (cant quite justify the outlay for that one) and of course the S3

and its gotta be said - I keep coming back to the S3 - just fancy a change from the 4mo now as much as I have loved owning and driving it. The thought of a 265bhp quattro S3 with SPS3 variable boost etc, recaros, sunroof, and I must say I do miss the turbo rush after owning a 270bhp MR2 turbo (along with a 93 VR6 and this 51 plate 4mo)

quite looking forward to the Bose/Xenons/Recaros pretty much as standard and sheer quality of an S3 with muchus tuning potential... all for circa ?15k

a remapped 210 here I come

what do these things soundlike on boost? no comments about 4 pot versus 6 pot please....... [:D] much turbo whistle? hope so ! [:D]

trade anyone?

I had a 210 S3 which Sem took on, but my mates one s chipped and you can really hear the Turbo spooling up on a chipped S3 and the performance is amazing.........can not wait for the RS3 to come out this year as that will knock the S3 prices down more.

I had a look at S3s and IMO the S3 is a nicer car - looks very special even stock, has a nicer interior, nicer badge and the potential to be much faster. BUT like most 1.8T applications I found the engine really lacks character, and its not as fun to thrash...that really spoiled it for me as the engine is the heart of it IMO. Hard to explain. If they did a 2.8 V6 S3, Id have one, but they don't so Im sticking with my V6.

For the record I felt the new A3 3.2 has that 'something'- lovely to drive - but its quite grown up. I drove a new GTI and IMO the 2.0T is much more fun than the old 1.8T, so I guess in A3 application its going to be a really nice combination. Looking forward to the new S3 / RS3 though
