spoke to awesome gti today and found out you can get a replacement ecu for the haldex clutch that gives you 40/60 permanent 4wd same as quarto. They told me totally changes the drive! the French rally team use them so cant be that bad. Anybody here got one or have any experience with one? Would anybody else be interested may be GB they cost about ?500. 30 min job to fit any feed back would be appreciated thanks lee

I know that there are several different Haldex controllers you can get, each having different characteristics. They are made by Haldex themselves and are a straight bolt-on replacement.

Quite a few people on forums.vwvortex.com seem to have fitted them to their R32s. They aren't a 40/60 split but are simply more aggressive at diverting power - i.e. some slip will cause more power than standard to be shifted to the rear. As is normal with Haldex, you have to be pushing quite hard to notice the benefit of the power shifting rearwards. And, they will always disengauge when you brake.

There was a video somewhere on vwvortex of a guy taking his R32 round a circuit. He had a supercharger and the haldex ecu fitted. Car seemed to have no understeer and was even oversteering out of bends.

I believe the one Awesome use is actually 50/50 split (could be wrong) but there was a thread a few weeks back discussing this..

AFAIK the general consensus was that with it being PERMANENT 4-wheel drive that there was going to be considerably more wear and tear (and therefore increased repair bills to expensive drivetrain parts, not to mention rear tyres) and that they werent designed to operate under full load 24/7, I.E the Haldex working flat out all the time to deliver power to the rear wheels...

thought that might be the case as it was not meant to run on 4wd all the time its a pity they dont do a switchable one so you can turn it on and off.Suppose it is ok for a rally team to use as they strip the car after each race and have a lot of funds!

Not according to the neuspeed link you posted. They have them listed at $900.

Do you know if these work with all Mk4 based Haldex equipped cars?

I'm really tempted to buy one of these as I reckon it should have a huge grin-factor.....but I also want a Milltek as the dreaded R32 drone is getting on my nerves on my daily M5 commute.

Aaarrggghh decisions, decisions....

I've been in touch with EIP and they've come back with the following:

Standard price is $900

Single orders from members of this forum get 10% off

10 or more orders gets us 15% off

20 or more orders gets us 20% off

I'm awaiting confirmation of shipping costs and details of the shipping agent so I can confirm import duty costs.
