Just booked my 2001 Golf 4Motion in for its 40,000 mile service at the main dealers, and they reckon it will be £330!

I nearly fainted! Are they taking the piss or is this "normal"?

I've no experience with V6 4motions but my 2002 Bora 1.6 16v cost about £240 for the 40k service at the dealer. I also had it taken off the long life servicing and put onto 10k intervals instead. That was about the standard price when I called around but as the V6 is a more complicated and more powerful engine, it would make sense if the cost to service it was higher. Did you get any other quotes? Thats probably the best way of seeing if £330 is reasonable.

Let me know how you get on.

Well i have a 1.6 16v on longlife service and they charged me ....... £340 for the 40k service! Aylesbury VW and Milton Keynes VW.

Then they charged me £60 for a brake fluid change.......... £400 in total!

I was skint for 2 months.[cry]

No wonder you were broke! Bad luck mate. I've noticed servicing costs vary greatly depending on where you are. I pay less now I live in Edinburgh than I used to in Manchester. Perhaps they work faster up here or something......

For my 40k, it was £374 (at a VW specialist)

That included (all OEM parts)

Long life oil + filter

Spark plugs (£10 each!)

pollen filter

inspection

Haldex oil + filter

Lube all hinges and stuff

Inspection

Check and re-grease notchy gearlinkage

no need for airfilter (as I have a k+n)

(the only thing that wasn't changed was the Fuel Filter (i had mine done at 50k))

I suspect the price u have been quoted did not include the all important 'Haldex Oil and Filter change'. I would suggest u ring around, and make sure they quote u for the Haldex too..

Thanks for all the replies. I'll find out exactly what they plan to do...

Sarah - if I was nearer I'd be there!

gulfstream11 - yeah, I don't do very many miles these days, probably why the price shocked me so much!

Can someone tell me what the Haldex service is? I'm probably being daft but I've actually never heard of it. Is it only relevent to diesel cars? If so I'm only 8k away on my Bora TDI, so I better start saving!! I certainly never heard any mention of it on my old 1.6 16v and I spoke to three different dealers who all quoted similar money, so if its for diesels only that would make sense. Can someone explain it to me.....please?

Cheers

Hi Sarah,

I know I won't need the Haldex on my 1.8T, but would the 40k service be the same price and would it include pollen and fuel filters??

Thanks

Carl

"PS, check out BBT's price £150 inc VAT[:|] even if it's without filters its V-cheap."

This service includes plugs, oil filter, oil, pollen filter, air filter, fuel filter, full visual check and level top-up.

I prefer to use the term "cost-effective" rather than "V-cheap"![:)]

Cheers Shaun.
