I've just phoned my local VW dealer (Twickenham) and they are quoting ?299 plus VAT for a 40,000 mile service. Is that reasonable?

Been looking for specialists in the west London area but haven't had any luck, that's why I resorted to VW.

Any help/suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Being in London I'm not surprised.

Up here that service is ?200 inc VAT, but labour rates are way higher than up her. I have heard that some VW dealers in London charge ?100 per hour & more[:O] Best shop around & get a few prices.........

I was quoted ?270+vat for 50k mils service on a 1.4 by Morden dealer, in the end had it serviced by the AA for ?159.99 incl[:)]
50k service is just a Lube service, it shouldnt cost more than ?100

Have been quoted ?299 for a 40,000 service from a stealer in Oxford so its not just London. Think I'll be sticking with my local non-vw garage - from what I've heard the premium you pay at the dealers doesn't guarantee you the best results!

That is some serious money!

We did a service on a Skoda Fabia vRS 2 days ago as I quoted ?100.00 + VAT cheaper than the dealer.

If I can help you could try a quote from us.

01246 455005.

We are in Chesterfield Junction 29 off the M1.

Bit further away , but if you can save money could be worth it.

We use genuine parts and VAG reccomended oil.

I was a service manager for 5 years for a Skoda dealer.

Oh and parts and warranty...

Just had my Gt TDi 130 in for a 50,000 mile service today at Hawco V W Peterhead and only cost me ?90.58.

To me thats quite cheap and all the rightVW parts used.

First class service .

Thanks again 20 Valve (Simon at Hawco)

I always ask what they do, and if any of it is "easy" I do those bits myself. I normally use Morden VW, and when I said I'd do some of it myself (airbox cleaning and filter renewal, pollen filter renewal) the lady just told me, "OK, then knock off ?x" I find Francis and Jane there pretty helpful always.

My 2nd variable service at 37000 miles was ?315 but that included the brake fluid service (around ?60 I think).
Brake fluid replacement we charge ?25.00 + VAT for parts and labour ( well fluid and labour)

That price seems to be right for the 50,000 service as the 40,000 is the costly one

Everything should have been picked up on the 40,000 service, so the 50,000 mile service is a very basic service.

I paid ?340 at Beadles VW Sevenoaks (South East of London) for my 40,000 mile, 4th year service (car has only done 26,000) in September, so the quote seems about right.

After the service, the car was like new, but they know the in's and out of my car as they have always MOT'd and serviced it since buying it new.
