Can this be achieved from a 1.8 T ??

Has any of you guys got this kind of power?

What needs to be done??

For arguments sake lets say the car is a Revo'd 2002 DBW model (yes i'm intrested, but depending on the price, posibility/difficulty level etc, I would like to achive this.

I think you'd need to change the turbo for a roller bearing (sp?) type one atleast.

You're looking at well over 300bhp/lb with those little blighters

VW designed the car for 150-180bhp, but have done the TT with 225bhp.. So 300lbs torque is probably gonna cause real concern to the longevity of other running gear!

You've also got to think about better brakes, bigger wheels and tyres, and suspension, if you wanna be able to use the power safely...

I've got ideas for the brakes, wheels etc, just gotta look at the all round cost for the engine section

230bhp is fine, you shouldn't see any major problems I would have thought.

Just look at how many of us on here are running 1.8t's chipped upto 230bhp etc.. no one ever comments about things falling off mechanically..

The mechanicals are strong enough to cope with that amount of power and torque.

It's not really feasiable to get anymore than about 230bhp and 240lbs outta standard mechanicals..

To get anymore power, you need to change hardware..

IHI roller bearing turbos require some serious work, check out Gary Handa's car, LiamH's, or Rich R1Gti, they've gone down that route and have gotten serious numbers outta their cars!

Go on do it, the Forum's itching for another BEAST!!

Be prepared to spend ?5k plus to get to >300hp, and keep a couple of K spare to maintain it when you break things.

If you've any sense you'll stay with what you've got as from here on in it's all diminishing returns in the bhp/? stakes.

If you want a silly fast car you could run a Mcoupe for the same kind of money. Then again if you want something stealthy, the golfs prety cool.

When I had 20p to my name, I had more money than sense, and I've spent rather more than that on mine, though less than some.

Bank on

?4,000 for a turbo upgrade.

?1,500 for an LSD and upgraded clutch/flywheel.

?1,000 for front mount intercooler

?2,000 for suspension and brake upgrades

?1,000 for some wheels and tires

?1,000 for exhaust, downpipe etc.

?Lots to fix it when the box strips a gear, or a driveshaft pops, insurance etc etc.

As Wilko says you do need money to cover other areas. I'm now running 300+bhp and 300+lbs of torque and so far so good although N/S/F cv joint is starting to go. I started out using an S3 210 engine as a base for high power and again with 60K on the clock it hasn't missed a beat. One of the benefits is that most people don't really expect a Golf to be quite as quick which is always funny and also means the car doesn't attract too much attention. One thing that is worth doing is spending some money on the cars chassis so it can put all the power down, once you've done this 300+bhp through the front wheels doesn't seem quite so daft!

not hard to achieve - just get Jabba's kit

About 320lbs of torque, from an engine with over 110,000 on the clock as well - Box is now stronger because of the limited slip diff but i doubt it would take much more

not cheap but i've had this car quite a while - if i hadn't spent the money on the k04 as well it wouldn't be too bad

HI

dare i say it 377ftlb and over 300bhp

on a stock ko3s and internals,so yes this power is available

without going down the big turbo route,and breaking the bank!!
