Ok, had my first volkswagen for nearly 3 months now, the car I like the delaer/service & support oh my god its the worst thing ever ! does anybody working for vw franchised dealer know anything about vw's ? i go from one person to the next get conflicting info etc etc, i need a litre of top up oil, the car is suppossedly on fixed servicing so you would think between the dealer service dept and the parts they could agree as to what oil i purchase from the dealer parts dept ! i believe it could be 10/40 castrol oil and not the super expensive longlife stuff ? can anyoine advise me as i am losing faith in the VW network !

Thanks

VW don't really rate their oil in terms of 10/40 5/30 etc, they have spec numbers such as 505.01 and 506.01 etc
Fixed servicing oil is 505.01
well i am sure the service team told me it had 5w40 or 10w 40 last service, tere parts specialist said you dont want that in it you need the longlife even though its fixed servicing ! oh man i just wanted to buy some oil, so what should it be cos i dont think they bloody know,.
It's £14-15 a litre iirc
How much???[:O]
Is that VW prices?

It's never more than £30 for 5L oil and a filter from VW when I get some. I know I won't be buying a 1L tub
VW spec oil for your engine is now VW504/507 and 5w 30 weight. VW505.01 and VW506.01 are now obsolete specs. They're still available for people who want oil at that weight and spec etc. but are not used for recent spec engines such as yours.

As pointed out, VW sell Quantum (their own brand) oil for about £25 for 5 ltrs. Buy that and top up as required.
welcome along bosco71 You are learning very quickly that vw service/spares departments are a thing to treasure[lol-lol]

you said that Trade Parts Specialists told you to use Longlife oil even if it's on fixed servicing. They are correct.
ok, but service sayt that wasnt the oil they put in ! i told the parts guy that and he said i could put the non longlife in but he wouldnt recommend that until the car got to about 70k, then tells me after dispencing that info that he is not a technicianand i should ask service ? bloodey clueless, in 7 years of vauxhall ownership i have never come across this kind of uselessness from a main dealer........... perhaps i have been spoilt by the vauxhall team !
It's a steep learning curve mate. But take it from me, VW504/507 - 5w 30 is what you need.

If you're ever unsure, ask away. Mobil 1 ESP 5w 30 is good stuff, and on offer (sort of) at Halfords. You get a free umbrella or summat. Good oil, but I'm not sure about the umbrella.

Personally I use Gulf GVX 5w 30 as I buy it in bulk for not a lot, but there are many oils available which are suitable. Castrol is my least favourite.
