Ive had my car about 2 years now and i love it.

I have been lucky enough to be on trade insurance and have been paying ?500 for the first year and then ?800 for the second which was a result.

Looking to renew the cars insurance March 05 but wont be able to keep on the trade insurance so i will need to look about for my own. (BUMMER!)

I have had my car stolen and then returned in July just gone and paid a massive chunk of premiums out for that. From this i then got the car fitted with a thatcham Clifford 600 alarm and treated my self to a set of BBS LM's!!!

I know im gonna get screwed because of my age and the type of car i have, but im sure theres ways around it?? i.e. name driver on my parents insurance perhaps??

Any one had any similiar experiences and have any good advice they could offer me please??

I'm 19 and insured through elephant. Insure the car in your own name and add your parents as named drivers as it'll take the policy price down.

unfortuantely if your try to insure the car under your parents name with you as a named driver the insurance company will realise its you thats actually going to drive it and so will void the insurance! I tried this on a civic type-r and elephant cottoned on and said they'd know at the end of the day, plus the police have cottoned onto to this nowadays.

I'm 20 with 1 years no claim but with a small claim on insurance and 3 points and i'm insured with my wheels and induction kit declared for ?1000 with elephant.co.uk and i added my mum and my girlfriend to it which did lower it somewhat.

Anyone below 21 generally gets screwed insurance wise but as you hit 21 the fun can begin[:D]

A word of advice is stick it out for a few years and grit your teath to try and work up your no claims.

I am 28 now I know it sounds old but I was there once young and a boy racer, I used to have Escort vans with all RS Turbo running gear in inc engine had super chip in to take max speed off the clock 145mph very very rapid. but used to pay in excess of ?1000 back then

Now I drive a 1.8 gti with wife on and cost me ?250 9 years no claims

Depends massively on your postcode more than anything else really. I couldnt even contemplate getting insured on a 1.8T until last year, when i managed to get a ?1200 quote.

Now its a different story.... 24 soon, and shortly 4yrsNCB will be mine. It's massively helped my premiums. The GTI would cost me ?890 if i kept it, this is also with the 3points ive nicely stacked up this year [:(]. But the best thing is that i can get insured on good quick cars like the S3, CTR and LCR for less than the ?1200 im paying now!

i tried vertually everyone i suppose its the protection that bump it up really it would have been about ?950 otherwise. 9yrs no claims most insures only take a maximum of 5 years ncb into account after 5 its niether hear nor thier. privillege and adrian flux were cheapest by far me in the end i just got sick of trying. its london thing when u live in london everthing more expensive.

Just got a shock...

19, No years NCB, ?3000 accident in July this year, my premium but with mother as additional driver on 2001 1.8 Turbo with ADMIRAL for 12 months:

Your Price is ?1347.31

Suggest you nip over to Admiral.com, very decent and I did note that when I removed my accident, the premium didn't change so with accident, it doesn't make a difference, they're forgiving (or they just know that if you've had an accident, you've learnt someat!).

Cheers

thats quite reasonable relly. its still alot to pay insurance wise but it seems to be the norm for us younger drivers. i'd say anyhting around 1k-1.5k is the average ppl are spending on insurance, even on 1.0, 1.1 litre motors!
