[see 04 July entry [:D]]

Any ideas what I can get for 20-30K?

Would like a sports car, preferably an open car - but not a "chopped" saloon (eg BM 3 Series etc).

At the moment looking at VX220/Elise/Boxster

Also - want a "B" road blaster - so no 500SLs etc, and although I love them an old 996 would cost too much (out of initial cost proportion) to service etc. Having said that would like "whole" life costs lowish (ie VX220 has very high initial depreciation)

Any opinions?

Boxter S

Read the test in this months 'Car' magazine aginst the new SLK350, it says the SLK is a superb tool, but it's still not a Boxter...

And the residuals are rock solid. I would also suggest the Z4 3.0, but I'm not sure of residuals on those.

Is an M3 really off the page on this....?

S2000 - Great value and fun...cheap to run

911 - great value and fun....a little more expensive to run but less depreciation however it would be older

Boxter - not my taste .... if you want a porshe get a 911

Elise/vx220 - get cars if a little impractical but best driving experience out of this lot

TVR's (any) - expensive to run....really expensive (check out servicing costs)

Just my option.....but if it was my money I would probably go for the 911 first then an S2000.

What ever you get I'm sure you'll enjoy it

just thought ....something a little different ...... a Morgan perhaps, although I know nothing about them !

S2000 - Sorry, love the looks, cool c0ckpit, can't stand high revving engines and low torque outputs (hence old 150PD)

TVR - running costs immense and pretty unrealiable (esp coming from VW)

350z - quite like that, too new to really jnow how residuals will fair though, also not open car (would not be a killer to this option though)

Beemer M3 - too much like the saloon (ANY saloon .. I dont mean performance wise obviously, but just not special inside)

Boxster - always going to be tarred with "hairdresser" brush and the question "couldn't you afford a 911"

911 - would worry me grabbing it by the neck and tearing round back lanes (too expensive to fix, too "nice" to thrash)

Not sure of NSX - bit long in the tooth now (but it does look nice and it comes as Targa)

I have owned a Boxster, M3, 911 and 150PD Golf. Have to say that the current vehicle is pretty good...... Wouldn't bother with the cab, dead ugly and I suspect slightly undesirable. If a soft top was a must, then a used Boxster S would be the choice.

For me it would have to be a Boxster or S2000 they are both brilliant IMO

Both very different drives though - take one of each for a test drive and see if either feel right

Boxster - wonderful engine and it howls just behind you - ignore the BHP and 0-60 times, the driving experience is sublime. Perfect balance through the corners

S2000 - the V Tec is awesome, it makes you feel like you are driving a BTCC car - superb gearbox as well. Bit too skitish for me, but the 04 one is supposed to improve on this
