Any ideas as to why the extra wiring would be added??
Original wiring is factory and in one piece.

The additional 'loom' was attached to nothing...

Additional wiring is from an aftermarket headunit... probably they forgot to take it out.
Probably...
It was in the wrong way round though...
The large white plug which, presumably, went into the head unit, was tucked away behind the dash near the clicks..
With the black plugs just visible from the head unit hole.
Bit weird it's got male and female plugs too?
Unless it's some kind of universal fitting thing.

Bloody annoying, I know that much.

Even more annoying is that I couldn't find the aerial power wire so we can only get Kiss FM right now.

Got steering wheel controls on it? If yes than that is the cable that converts the input from the steering wheel back to the aftermarket head unit, normally there is a control box that connects in-between.

That is the part that most likely is missing.

I bet you there was one on it for a while as I got the exact same type of cable in the veccy for my double din pioneer radio, but its for the steeringwheel comtrols... they probably put it back to standard and forgot to take the cable.

Also the 12v live to the aerial might be right at the base of the antenna...

I want to replace it anyway (I remember the DAB debacle in the golf, here we go again..) so I'll just run a new wire.

Wouldn't mind factory looking steering controls tbh...
Be another major expense for a car I rarely drive though.

What are the yellow vw plugs used for? (Next to the green and blue one?)

Those plugs, collectively, are for the cd changer (I think)...
I have the cd changer and just have the blue and green one. I don’t have a yellow in my vehicle. So it’s not the cd changer.

Dunno then...
It was in my old passat... the 3 plugs all clip together..
Only info I can find is that it's changer related. Who knows.

edit apparently yellow is for an amp.
