Hello all,

From my previous thread i'm just in the throws of buying a 130 gt tdi 2001 6 speed but i've had it hpi'd and it shows up as a 115 5 speed!!! but this dosn't make sence, i could understand if it had just just been a horse power change but for the gearbox to have been changed seems a bit much.It has got 6 gears i used it. Went to the local dealers and they checked it too and the with the same results! But they told me it is quite common for the details to be entered incorect by the suppliers, they'd had a customer in who's car came up as a polo but the owned a golf!they showed me the sticker in the boot and said they can confirm the engine from this. but that seems a little easy to change if it is a ringer. where abouts is the engine number stamped?

Is there anyway of telling for definate what the car is.

Or what is my best course of action.

Cheers john

115 is 85Kw on the sticker in the boot. 5 speed box would've been an option - for some reason they introduced it with the 6, then offered it with a choice of 5 or 6....?

Oxford is right - if you've got the reg no VW customer services will tell you what it is and confirm the service history - any doubts walk away - there'll be more to choose from!

The engine code will be stamped somewhere visible on the cylinder head (you may need to remove the plastic cover), and this code should match that on the stickers in the spare wheel well and the service book

Code AJM will definitely indicate it is a 115 PD model, but I'm not sure of the 130 PD code(s).

Hope this helps

Where did you HPI it?

When i bought my car the other week I HPI'd it with the AA. That gave me the engine number and I had the plate so I rang vauxhall and checked it against their database to get the VIN. Before I got the vehicle I checked they all matched.

Be very careful of people advertising as 130 bhp models, I did insurance quotes using the reg plate on about 10 from auto trader that actually turned out to be 115's. They see the badge and 6 speed box and assume its a 130.

btw mate, as said above, the details are very easy to get wrong. my car was showing as a 110 5spd, so i got the dealer to send me a letter showing it as a 115 6spd and it was then corrected on the logbook and hpi.

If you have doubts about it, so might your buyer when it is time to sell it on!

Personally I'd leave it for this reason.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I agree, you may have problems when you are trying to sell it. Unless the price is amazing, just walk away...plenty of other examples out there.

I personally wouldnt want any car that didnt have the correct documentation, manufactuer error or not.

The owner went to the dealership and they told hom it's a 115, but the's convinced it's a 130 so there going to check it out on monday for him,

The price isn't bad,[^] ?7600 2001,x,6 speed, grey, 5door, 45k, climatromic, full electric, rear spoiler, pas, cruise control, just serviced, new tyres, really tempted. but there's enough of them around think i'll wait for another one to come up,[8D] i'd be the fourth owner Too. kinda had me heart set on a 130 so best off sticking to it or would always be thinking what if. Think most of the miles have been round the town miles and the interior is showing signs of neglect there's a small dent in the rear arch its not cracked the paint and i think dent master could get it out, but think i'm better off paying a bit more and get a better history.[)]

Thanks for all your help, off to find another [B)]

Forgot to mention, the 115 has FS-III stamped on the outside of the caliper, very easy to see from the outside, the 130 has spring clips visible - like the 1.8T

Mine has this on a 110bhp...(well thats what i think it is)
