Just wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the 1.4 75bhp engine in my golf and the 1.4 100bhp engine in the polo and lupo sport? I know it seems measly but being only 19 makes insurance a nightmare[:(!], and id like just a little more power. So does anyone know how i can get my golf up to 100bhp, and any ideas of how much this will cost?

Thanks in advance people!!![8)]

The answer is different ECU and head. Cost... a few hundred from a breakers, then theres the insurance.

25bhp is going to make little difference guys, i'd just wait until you can afford something with more poke. Thats what i'm doing [;)]

Guess it wouldnt be worth it at that.

Any other suggestions where the mighty 1.4s can get some extra power???

The vw 1.4 just seems really underpowered compared to the likes of the civic 1.4 which has 90bhp.

Thanks anyway guys!!!

i wouldn't say a 35% power increase was little difference...

N13LY R, if you really want power from your car, then may I suggest the TSR performance turbo upgrade.

u mean 25%, but yes by all means spend hundreds of pounds for a slightly faster 1.4 ! yessss, feel it.

Go to a 1.6 maybe? Insurance isn't much worse but quite a bit more poke, without spending hundreds on the engine you already have. Its 105BHP vs the 115BHP of the 2.0. When I was 19 I had a 1999 1.6SE Bora, insurance was about ?500.

I got an extra 25bhp out of my MK2 GTI and it felt like a rocket ship! but if I was you I squirt a 50 - 75hp shot of NOS in there if you fancy a bit more go and you can always take the kit with you when you upgrade your mota..

Nah, its about 33% more power... (25bhp is 1/3rd of the original 75bhp, therfore 33%)

Sorry, to be picky. [:p]

Yeah i would just reccomend possibly jumping to a 1.6 like im doing. Have checked insurance and its about 100 quid or so more a year. So im going to do that instead of trying to get some performance out of my 1.4

Re-mapping a 1.4 you wont get over i think its about 8 bhp. Lighter wheels on the car would help unless your already driving on steels?
