Hi guys,

So I have a 9obhp golf, 1.9 turbo diesel, engine code agr. Got a couple of niggling problems that I would like to run past y'all in the hopes of some good advice!

Just a bit of background...it has 229000 miles on it, it has the .216 injectors in it (instead of the .190), it has a k and n pannel filter. no other mechanical mods, really, except its lowered on springs by around 35mm.

Basically, when i accelerate, the power seems really lumpy, in all gears. Also, when I come off the gas, the car seems to slow down quicker, even when not braking. It doesnt seem to free wheel at all well. Generally, the whole car feels like its dragging its feet something chronic.

I have had the injectors in for around 10k now, and they have been absolutely perfect. I have not had a single problem with them, or the car, since the upgrade.

I regularly service the car, oil every 8k, fuel filter every 15k. It is thouroghly checked on a lift every month.

Oh, also, my MPG has gone right down...usually I can expect 58-60mpg on a normal cycle, now Im struggling to reach 50 at all.

I have a few suspicions; maybe a wheel bearing, or a dodgy brake, or CV joint. However, the car doesnt make any strange noises, so that is why I came here...to see if you can help me!

Any (helpful) comments and suggestions would be appreciated! thanks in advance everyone

I would think sticking caliper, plus something like MAF getting killed like my K&N did to my MAF on my TDI.

That, and get it scanned [:p]
ok cool, ill have a look at that then. Why would the MAF get killed by the K&N dude?

plus, you scanned it only the other week...there was a ground fault with the anti shudder valve but that was it!

According to K&N themselves it's nothing more than an urban myth that their airfilters can kill MAF sensors.

Chris.
do you have a EGR still fitted? have you checked to see if its clogged up with muck? if it is (which i bet it is) you mite want to remove that and the inlet and clean them out. :)
Sticking brake calliper (rear is common) would explain the no freewheel. K&N filters arent that bad...mine has done over 50k on one. People are quick to slate them. Many people have run them for many many miles and had no problems. MAF's can be problematic as standard! they are very tempremental on a good day. Your MPG aint bad for winter, we have all lost some due to the cold [C]
everyones mpg down slightly due to the cold weather, some k and n can kill mafs as they use oils in there filters which end up killing them thats why alot of people use pipercross panel filters, i would say good chance its your maf, but to be sure you need to log it on vagcom

Pipercross use oil too... I have a can of it in my garage for the moto-X bikes

yeh but why is it only a problem after 229000 miles then?! its NEVER been cleaned lol!

This is already the 3rd maf this car has had. not too keen on spending bucket loads on replacing that!

ok, ill check the rear calipers...the rear brakes have just been done, so ill have them looked at!
your answering your own question there fella.
but what im saying is, people have that sort of problem at 80k, but this car has never had the problem...does it mean its just less dirty lol?!
Sounds like a sticky caliper to me. That's the only thing been suggested that explains all of your symptoms

do i really have to explain this..

If as you say its a 80k problem, and your cars done 200 odd k, and its never been done, Chances are pretty good that its full of muck.

You cant ask questions on a forum, get answers and then say no because the problem didnt happen 150k ago when it should of done! thats just retarded! [lol-lol]

no, i get what your saying, and clearly it is an issue. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this has been a very noticeable, sudden change in charecteristics, and is more likely explained by the sticking caliper. I would expect the EGR muck to build up and be a slow, gradual decline in power.

Anyway, I will take your advice and clean it (im doing an EGR delete anyway)

I dont see it as retarted...but then I guess I didnt explain myself properly [;)]
