I am 21 and i've been searching for the best quote on a 1.8t too and as
you said some of them aren't even able to insure me although i have a
clean license and 3 years NCB.

The best quote i got so far for a Leon 1.8t 180 is ?1200ish FC from
tesco which i thought wasn't too bad considering i live in crap chav
area!

I'm 21 with a 1.8T!

First year I had 0 NCB (had been driving on my dads policy with my previous (1st) car) and FC with Class 1 Business Use cost me ?2100/year with elephant.co.uk (I think that Class 1 Business Use added about ?100 to the policy).

My policy has just come up for renewal and I have managed to get a quote of ?1009/year with Admiral (elephant.co.uk wanted ?1123 to renew)

Hope this helps!

P.S. If your parents both have clean licences and/or good no claims add them to your policy as named drivers. I found that this knocked ?400+ off my policy (insurance companies see this as spreading the risk) [Y]

Ho hum. The insurance lottery! Not that you win anything, it's a lottery what the quote is like.

Age 47, driving for 30 years, no accidents, convictions or claims. 10 years NCB with last company but that was overseas in Barbados.

Best deal I could get (TFT) for a poxy 1.8 Mondeo (P reg) was just under 300 and that's with it garaged in a reasonable are and not being used for commuting. The big issue was hardly anyone would accept my NCB from overseas. Practically nobody will even QUOTE if I want to bring my own Golf back to Britain with me. In the end, after LOTS of phoning around brokers the ONLY deal I could get was about 500 (FC) for the Golf as long as I get AMD to remove the chip. Turned out that was it would be with the same company I'm with now. Going to try and sell the car but if I can't get a sensible price for it, I'll talk to the company direct now I've been with them 6 months and see if they will budge a bit. One of the unexpected, hidden costs of living overseas for a while.

Hi there, I am 20 (21 next month) I suggest try admiral using their online quoting system. I have found a number of ways to get the quote down:

1. Add 2 older drivers, one female, one male. Ideally 50+ with full ncb, no recent claims/convictions. add the female one first.

2. If you have 2 addresses (I have home and uni) then put the address where you are not usually at as your main address (in my case home), and there is a part that says "location where car is kept" in this box put the other postcode where you keep the car the majority of the time (in my case at uni).

3. Milage per year - its a guesstimate so try knocking a few thousand miles off. I put 5000, which is actually probably an over-estimate for me as I dont use the car all that often as im a uni student living right next to campus.

Doing these will knock a huge amount off your quote. Last year when I was 19 insuring my saxo VTR (0 ncb, 2 fault claims (1 write off), 5 points) i knocked off about 700 quid doing this. Will be doing it again this year on the 1.8T and I can't see any other companies coming close.

I did some test quotes (put my date of birth back one month so effectively making me 21), and I got around 1100.

Try admiral, elephant and bell direct. They are all the same company but the quotes can differ.

Hope this helps,

Blimey that a really good quote for 0 NCB. I presuming this is under your own name, fully comp etc?

Direct line wanted about ?3k off me when I had 0 NCB!
yeah thats right. direct line were by far the cheapest out of everyone else i tried. most people were looking for 1400 min

Greenlight Insurance is who I use for my Turbo. Very pleased with the quote as well. I can use it on track as well if I want.

Is the entention for your Turbo to be modified as well as that well effect who will insure you?

I'm 21, with Passat 1.8T, 2 NCB, 1 conviction, 1 accident no claim,
paying about ?1100 with Greenlight. They are still the cheapest for me,
but did think it would be cheaper as for a mk3 Golf GTI 16v was only
about ?900 which is 1 group higher, quicker and far more attractive to
thieves
