are you sure its under the engine cover?? ive read that its somewhere just under the wipers on the right hand side of the engine bay???

i have the same problem!someone asked where my air box is!
cant find it so i assume it is under the main engine cover

When you say airbox I assume you're talking about where the air filter lives?
The engine covers vary according to engine and year - so yours may not be were others think it is.
If its a late model engine and has a large engine cover it could actually be inside the cover itself.

The airbos is on the right hand side of your engine bay, directly above your battery. It has the large pipe with the MAF on leading towards the engine.
As for the engine cover, you'll see 4 very large screws... you just need to turn these 90degrees until they 'pop' up... do all 4 and the cover will lift off.

i wondered on my 1.4 but it turns out my airbox sits ON TOP of the engine []

look for the intake pipe for the filter on your cover (right side near grill)
Dunno why VW changed the lay out and tucked it under the cover as its hotter!!?? Cheaper i guess [!]
Any pictures would help/ to dark atm as id take some.

Even if it's not, you'll see the box to look for in that thread...
If there's something that looks like this, then your standard airbox has been replaced with a cone filter

And you'd be hard pushed to drive around with no air filter/box I reckon - all the crap would go straight into your carbuerettor & you'd have one pretty sick golfy!

i know what an IK is! lol.
i was just wondering where the airbox was hidden, as someone pointed out it should be on the right.
can see the cold air feed on the bottom right of the engine cover tho.

it was me that raised the question as to where golf balls airbox was when he popped round to mine the other week. Where i *thought* the airbox should be was just this huge empty space as if it had been taken off. There was even brackets for what looked like where the airbox should attach too!! very strange.
