sell 1.4 buy 1.8t easy. tbh unless your a mechanic, its a big waste of money trying to convert, as you'll need beter brakes, suspension, unless your car is highly modded then i'd just sell it

its really not that hard to do though, although the 1.8 is probably the hardest to conver to.

if your not mechanicaly minded, youd be better off going for the v5 or v6. im starting my v6 in a couple of weeks and im not expecting it to take more than a week doing it every day, in a way, you could say its plug and play with the N/A engines. depending what gearbox you use, you dont even need to go inside the cabin of the car. the fact that mines going from 5 speed to 6 speed means i have to change the shifter, thats the only thing i have to touch inside the car

as for the conversion, off the top of my head, you would need:

1.8 engine, complete, all ancilaries, turbo, pipeing etc

    gearbox

    shifter

    driveshafts

    hubs

    brakes

    ecu

    wiring loom

    probably about it really

The price you can buy a factory produced car for now a days, is it really worth it all the mods you have to disclose, even though most of the people on here seem to say there insurance is cheaper than a factory produced car. If you still go a head and do the conversion look into how much it going to cost knowing you never going to get your money back when or if you have to sell the car

you can pick all that up on ebay for 1200-1500 quid. if your car has alot you want to keep, its worth it. and to buy a gti at that price it would have mega mileage or something wrong with it, plus time and effort spending weeks swapping mods over
