My new Hybrid turbo has been fitted but now its not making any boost?

It doesnt make any spin up noise (probably because its not spinning)

Could the boost control valve be broken.

I removed the actuator feed at it makes very little difference at all.

This is driving me crazy :(

    Suggestions welcome please.

Would VAG com show a fault with the boost solenoid?
The garage replaced the injector loom at the front of the block. He said that the part was the same for all years of golfs??? doesnt sound right to me.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Gonna need more information

You a PD, 1.8T? what turbo have you fitted? Have you had it mapped etc. etc. Other mods?

Who fitted it, and why don't they make it work?

The boost solenoid controls the boost levels by actuating the wastegate - doesn't actually stop the turbo spinning etc. You should sitll be able to hear it spooling.

If the car runs, doubt the injector loom is to blame.

Sorry guys more info - its a pd 150bhp engine with hybrid turbo from Turbo technics. It did have a tuning box which I removed in order to rule out that as a possibility. Its not spooling up at all. Im going to take it back to the garage tomorrow, but was looking at it myself to see if I could find any faults. Car runs fine, a bit longer to start, maybe 4 revolutions rather than almost instantly. No other mods.

bit off topic, but is it a uprated pd150 turbo you have? how much did that set you back then?

as above, you need to have it remapped to fully take into account the new turbo.. it should still spin though i would have thought..

I agree that I should get it mapped for best results... but im sure it should work to a degree without a remap!

Turbo was approx £500 for hybrid - I got it through the trade.  Sent my old 150pd turbo off and it was rebuilt,

Physically larger compressor housing and compressor wheel.

Im sure it will be something trivial for sure.

Unless there is something stuck in the turbo, stopping it from moving, the only other thing I can think of is that the vanes are fully closed / fully open (which ever way would make NO boost) and its an electrical fault with the boost controlling solenoid!

Yep, I rang them. They said it should still boost even if its not been remapped.

Sounds like an electronic / vaccum problem rather than the actual turbo itself.

just for your info mate, i've just fitted my turbo yesterday that had been off to TT for the same rebuild/hybrid you had,  i have not had it remapped, the car flies now and has definately got a bit more poke. so you should defo be getting more than it was before you sent it in.

so you are right to be looking elsewhere. sory couldn't be more help than that. and not trying to sound like i'm gloating etc.

    hope you get it sorted

    Chris

have you put all the pipework back on properly? Check the intercooler pipework and vaccum piping is all back where it should be. Check your fuses too, sounds stupid but if the car feels like its permanently in limp mode then it could simply be a blown fuse.

100bhp tdi pd chipped to somewhere in the 130bhp region.

whoops, sorry would help wouldn't it.

its a gti pd150 arl engine code.

loads more boost than before now, sounds alot different too. also fitted the allard egr delete pipe at the same time.

had to modify a couple of pipes and buy a stright coupler from sfs to get it all plumbed in. my pancake pipe is now a little off oem location, but it req's replacing anyway so am hoping the new sfs kit will replace it for something else.

Hiya guys, thanks for you comments and help.

Myself, the mechanic and an auto electrician have been looking at it for the last fe days.

    We have tried the following.

Checked pipes / used diagnostics to look for fault codes / had a permanant vacum onto the turbo to see if it fully opens / closes the actuator / checked fuses / checked vaccum pipes/ had EGR off again and cleaned/ etc etc

The car makes a tiny (and i really mean tiny) bit of boost right at the top off the rev range.... like what happens when the actuator hose is pulled off.

just waiting for the garage owner to come back from his hols and he can decide what to do... prob end up sending the turbo back to turbo technics.

    cheers - Dan
