Right,

Managed to win my auction for my Audi RS8 wheels + tyres. But they are a little worn and have 2 scratches – so going to refurb them.

I have rang local businesses – and they say for 18” RS8’s its £65 per wheel (if they are diamond cut – its £85).

However I found a private/mobile bloke who does it in Derby and he quoted me £130 for the set.

That seems a bit good – and he even said I can get a choice of colours!

So my questions are:

A) Is it an easy enough job that these people can do it privately – and do a good job?

B) Is £130 for four alloys a good price for mobile (would I find a price like that locally – or is it one in a million?)

C) For colours – on a black car – what alloy colour would look good. Im toying with GunMetal – as a nice deep silver would look slick

PS Please don’t say ‘Black-on-Black’ I just really don’t like it! Lol

What do you guys think?

 Wow! Im truly flab-a-gasted!

I just had an entire set of 4 18s cleaned, blasted, refurbed, powder coated and clear coated for £60. Admittedly the refurb job was not what I asked for - they machined down the rim of one of the alloys instead of building up the scuffs with metal filler like I instructed. They apologised and let me pay for only the 3 wheels and not the 4th, so £20 each basically. My cars black so I went for silver wheels. All the darker shades I've seen just look like greys. I'm happy with them, but still wish they'd properly refurbed the 4th wheel instead of loosing so much metal from the edge. For £60 though no complaints. (apart from the fact I've only just noticed, they seem to have lost my centre caps! will need to call them in the morning!! Porsche centre caps = £150!)

No way - My cheapest quote is £80 per wheel now!

Also - I think they are Diamond Cut - so people are afraid to touch them and not willing to give guarentees :(

Also, ive been told that they dont have to be re-diamond cut... Can I just resurface over them? Will the company just fill and paint over the ones ive got?

I.e. Un-Diamond Cut them...

The place I went to was Bournes Powder Coaters in Birmingham. The wheels are OK, but wouldn't pass the connoisseur test. There's a slight orange-peel effect to the coating and it doesn't have the 'hyper' power shine of really good alloy wheels.

£300? If im getting £80 per wheel quoted round here - then knocking off £20 for a drive to Birmingham from Northampton doesnt really help :(

I might have to email a few and see if they can just 'go over the top' with regard the diamond cut. It not fussed on the finish - as long as you dont see dinks! :)
